Glasflügel – Eugen Hänle – The pioneer in composite aircraft design by Wolfgang Binz

Essential reading for any Glasflügel fan, available in English and German in our store and many good bookstores.
Price €59.00 incl. 7%* VAT or excluding VAT €55.14

Of course, this is also a book about the legendary Libelle and the other Glasflügel types, their origin and development, their numerous optimizations and their successes. But it is much more than that.

Wolfgang Binz has meticulously researched how GRP pioneers Eugen and Ursula Hänle got started, how the company Glasflügel emerged from the slipway in the living room kitchen, which companions and also competitors accompanied the Hänles. He also tells of the countless hurdles that had to be overcome and problems that were never lacking. And at the latest after Eugen Hänle’s tragic death, the story even turns into an economic drama of a kind one could hardly have imagined. After reading this book, glider pilots will have a different impression of Eugen Hänle and Glasflügel than before.
Also described are the rescue attempts and the preservation of Glasflügel’s heritage by Hanko and Christian Streifeneder.

Nearly five hundred photos, documents and drawings (including numerous large-format three-page views) turn a reference book into a feast for the eyes and a treasure trove for glider pilots and model builders.

Workshop Practice for Building and Repairing Wooden Gliders by Hans Jacobs & Herbert Lück

Price without VAT €45.79 or including VAT 7%* €49

The English Translation of the German classic, Werkstattpraxis für den Bau von Gleit- und Segelflugzeugen BY Hans Jacobs and Herbert Lück. How do you build, maintain and repair wooden gliders?

Hans Jacobs (designer of Weihe, Meise, Kranich, Habicht, and many more famous sailplanes of the 1930s and 1940s) wrote the book, called Werkstattpraxis, to aid the growing sport of gliding in Germany in the early1930s. Its effect on pre-World War II glider building was electrifying. He updated it several times up through the 1950s, always in German. Today the book is as applicable as ever for those maintaining and restoring wooden vintage sailplanes or aiming to build new wooden gliders or vintage replicas. For those interested in the history and development of soaring it is a must-read. The Vintage Sailplane Association has now finished its translation, a 25-year volunteer project, for English-speaking readers and is making it available this summer. Editors: Neal Pfeiffer and Simine Short Published by the Vintage Sailplane Association, fisrt in July, 2016. Thistranslated edition includes an Addendum of up-to-date information prepared by Neal Pfeiffer, Ph.D. for those wanting to produce or repair wooden sailplanes in today’s world, a valuable addition for safety, convenience.
